Privacy Policy
Overview
ClimbSessions is an offline-only app. It collects no personal data, requires no account, and sends no information to any server. This policy explains what data the app stores and how it is handled.
Data we collect
We collect nothing. ClimbSessions does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. There are no analytics, no crash reporting services, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party integrations that receive your data.
Data stored on your device
ClimbSessions stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Session records (date, duration, climb/rest times)
- Individual climb records (grade, type, project association, tags)
- Project records (name, notes, grade, status, tags, photos)
- Custom tags and grade systems you create
- App preferences and settings
All of this data is stored in a SQLite database file — a lightweight, self-contained database that lives entirely on your device's local storage. SQLite is an industry-standard format; no server, no cloud service, and no external system is involved. The database file exists only on your phone and is never transmitted anywhere.
Photos
If you attach photos to projects, those images are copied into the app's local storage directory. They are not uploaded anywhere and remain entirely under your control.
Data export and import
ClimbSessions allows you to export your data to a file and import it again later — for example, to create a backup or transfer data to a new device. These export files are created and stored locally on your device and are not transmitted or shared by the app. If you choose to move an export file elsewhere (such as copying it to a computer or a cloud drive of your choice), that transfer is entirely under your own control and is outside the scope of this app.
Internet access
ClimbSessions does not require internet access and does not make any network requests. The app functions fully offline at all times.
Account & sign-up
No account is required to use ClimbSessions. There is no registration, login, or user identity of any kind.
Children's privacy
ClimbSessions does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information from any user, including children. The app has no accounts, no sign-up, no network communication, and no third-party SDKs that collect data. Because no personal data of any kind is processed, ClimbSessions complies with children's privacy laws including COPPA (USA), GDPR-K (EU), and equivalent regulations in other jurisdictions. The app is safe for use by users of all ages. If you are a parent or guardian with questions about how your child's data is handled, the answer is straightforward: it isn't — nothing leaves the device.
Device permissions
ClimbSessions may request the following device permissions. Each is optional and used solely for the feature described — no data accessed via these permissions is transmitted outside the app.
- Camera — requested only if you choose to take a photo to attach to a project. Photos are saved to the app's local storage and are not shared.
- Photo library / media access — requested only if you choose to select an existing photo from your device to attach to a project. The selected image is copied to the app's local storage; no other photos in your library are accessed.
- Storage / file access — requested on Android to allow you to choose a location when exporting your data, or to locate an export file when importing. Files are only read from or written to the location you explicitly select.
You can deny any of these permissions and still use all other features of the app. Permissions can be reviewed and revoked at any time in your device's system settings.
Data deletion
All data is stored locally. You can delete any data from within the app, or remove all data by uninstalling the app from your device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the updated version will be published here and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the change. Given ClimbSessions's offline-only nature, substantive changes are unlikely.
